This dilapidated Buick Dynaflow was parked near the Rail Yards Market in Barelas, NM. It’s too late to give it a good wax. When I saw this jalapeno colored car, the word jalopy sprang to mind.
I searched online for the correct spelling of the word “jalopy,” the word used to describe a dilapidated, worn-down machine. I was amused to learn that it comes from the word Jalapa, the mispelled name for Xalapa, a town in Veracruz, Mexico. “Jalapeño” is Spanish for “from Xalapa” and that’s where the pepper was originally cultivated. I would never have learned this trivia were it not for my seeing and photographing the junker. Now you know it, too.
