A message left behind. Time marches on, the ocean rolls in and out.

Exactly one year ago, I was with my immediate family on Padre Island, a barrier island along the southern Gulf coast of Texas. We went to Padre Balli Park, which boasts 374-acres for camping, swimming and fishing. It has pristine, soft beach sand that serves as a springboard for recreation in warm, hospitable weather.

On this particular day, due to less-than-inviting cold weather. we were nearly alone on the beach. After driving in from New Mexico, we were determined to put our feet into that ocean water.

We rolled up our pant legs, removed our shoes, and began walking in the sand towards the water break. As we got closer to the water, there was a girl kneeling in the sand.  She was placing algae-covered beach stones into a message.  She didn’t stay after our momentary exchange of “hello.” She left behind her stones that formed this message for anyone who happened by.  I can share it now with you, too.
