Happy Winter Solstice!

On December 21, Earthlings living in the Northern Hemisphere mark their longest night and shortest day of the year; in the Southern Hemisphere it’s the opposite, with the longest day and shortest night of the year. However you look at it, reflect on the passage of the season and our humble presence on this big blue marble. Right now, it’s the only planet we have, so let’s take care of it.  While you’re at it, a hug for peace on Earth would be nice, too.

HUG | Rising above the elephant’s head was another hot-air balloon in the distance. It reminded me of a lightbulb. That’s why I pressed my shutter at this exact moment.

What you are looking at is an elephant hugging a bear, hot-air balloon style. The message on the bear’s back reads, “WAKE UP AND LIVE [WORLD] PEACE.”

HUG is one of the special-shaped balloons that premiered at the 2016 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. I photographed it with admiration to enjoy all year-long.

In closing, here is a link to learn the word for PEACE in many Earth languages.
