Death Valley Desert Gold (Geraea canescens)

This solitary, drought tolerant wildflower was growing in volcanic soil. Well-spaced moisture during Christmas week reportedly coaxed out more of these on hillsides in what is now being called a”superbloom” rare event. We were ahead of it. Even in the harshest conditions, life emerges.  Observe that this tough little flower is pointing directly at the sun.
